Director, Federal Affairs - Tax

Position Summary
The Director of Government Affairs will serve as an advocate for tax law changes of value to Koch Industries, Inc. and its companies. This position will collaborate with the businesses’ tax departments to understand the key issues that drive tax decisions and to find ways that the public sector can positively impact those issues. The Director will continually share knowledge and feedback regarding the political process and keep the businesses regularly updated on the advocacy in progress.
  • Develop and implement legislative and regulatory strategies around key tax initiatives

  • Monitor and influence tax legislation and other government decisions important to Koch Industries

  • Support a majority of other key issues and initiatives of the company

  • Build and maintain relationships with US Senate, House and Agencies

  • Manage a variety of outside consultants

    65% of the role is dedicated to key tax initiatives
    35% of the role is dedicated to other key legislative initiatives (i.e. – energy, environment, trade and legal reform)

    Requirements
  • Minimum 10+ years related experience (preferably in a corporate or consulting tax role, on the Hill, for the Administration or in a corporate government relations)

  • Knowledge of Federal legislative process; specific knowledge of tax law and policy.

  • Strong understanding of Federal and State issues

  • Expertise around the structure of functions within US governmental agencies – especially the IRS and Treasury

  • Solid economic thinking skills

  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable with public speaking

  • Effective project management skills

  • Willingness to grow relative relationships with portfolio of government decision makers

    Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree 

    Education Preferred

  • Master’s Degree or advanced tax degree (JD, LLM)
