| Position Summary |
As a Chemist Intern, you will
- be responsible for assisting the Lab Technicians and Chemists on a daily basis.
- be responsible for performing ASTM or other testing on process streams,
- actively participate in the Intern Program by attending intern meetings, team building activities, learning lunches, facilitating and attending MBM meetings, and all other intern events.
As an intern for the Summer of 2010, you will have an opportunity to work with the North Pole Refinery Lab Team in the Operations Department. You will be exposed to various areas within this field of work. While we believe a meaningful work experience is the most important part of a successful internship program, we also build in exciting activities designed to make the intern experience a lively and enriching experience for you. Some of the activities you will be involved in include Market Based Management training, volunteer opportunities, the NPR Family Picnic, Learning Lunches with members of the Refinery Leadership Team, and an end of summer presentation for Refinery and University leadership.

Flint Hills Resources Alaska's North Pole refinery near Fairbanks, Alaska, has a crude oil processing capacity of about 220,000 barrels per day. It is the largest oil refinery in the state. It processes North Slope crude oil and supplies gasoline, jet fuel, heating oil, diesel, gasoline and asphalt to local and international markets. About 60 percent of the refinery’s production is destined for the aviation market.

| Requirements |
Work Experience and Skills Required: Lab Experience gained through current enrollment in Chemistry coursework.
Education Required: Current enrollment in an accredited degree program in Chemistry with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Education Preferred: Sophomore level or higher in a Bachelor's Degree Program.
Physical Requirements: Stooping, bending, crawling, pushing, pulling and squatting. Climbing heights of up to 200 feet (stairs and ladders) and climbing portable ladders up to 25 feet. Walking up and down stairs frequently. Constantly (2/3 or more of the time) hearing, seeing (acuity - near far and depth). Exposure to environmental conditions (frequently walking in and outdoors) with exposure to extreme warm and cold temperatures. Lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently. Must be able to communicate freely and effectively via normal work place channels using phone, computer network, and direct means. Must be able to work effectively on computer for extended periods of time
